More Encanto projects could be coming sometime in the near future from Disney, as star Adassa gives a rather cryptic comment about the franchise. The 60th feature film from Walt Disney Animation, Encanto was released in theaters over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2021. While the film was not a major box office smash upon release, it saw a boost in popularity following its streaming release on Disney+ that Christmas Eve.
Encanto's success could be felt on multiple levels. The song «We Don't Talk About Bruno» became a sensation and was Disney's most successful song in 29 years, becoming the first Disney song to climb to #1 on the Billboard charts since «A Whole New World» from Aladdin. Encanto won the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards, as well as numerous other accolades. Months after its release, the movie is still one of the most popular entries on Disney+, and it has gained a passionate fanbase. Because of all this, it isn't too surprising that Disney CEO Bob Chapek described Encanto as a new franchise shortly after its release. However, there haven't been many updates on that front lately.
