After Elon Musk took charge of Twitter, the social media platform has seen several changes including the introduction of a $8 charge for the blue tick verification mark and an absolutely new work ethic that lays stress on long hours. Notably Musk himself has revealed he works anything between 14-18 hours a day. And now, as promised by Musk, Twitter will start laying off staffers in order to place the social media platform on the profitable path. Twitter will inform employees via email on Friday about whether they have been laid off, temporarily closing its offices and preventing staff access, a report by Reuters informed. It has been reported that as many as 50% staff may be shown the door.
In an email sent to the staff, Twitter said that it will alert employees by 9 a.m. Pacific time on Friday (12 p.m. EDT/1600 GMT) about staff cuts. "In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday," said the email sent on Thursday.
Twitter further said that its offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended in order "to help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data". Also, Twitter employees who will not be affected by the layoffs too will be notified via their work email address. While the employees who have been laid off will be notified with next steps to their personal email addresses.
It can be noted that Twitter has not yet responded to a request for comment.
