Elden Ring's expansive open world of the 'Lands Between' is incredibly breathtaking yet notably intimidating, as newcomers and even veterans of FromSoftware's past titles may be at a loss of where to go first. After the initial punishing boss fight in the starting area, players are set free in Limgrave to explore the area as they please. Yet, Elden Ring features several locations at the beginning of the game that will undoubtedly benefit the Tarnished at the start of their journey.
First and foremost is the Cave of Knowledge, a short, linear zone that serves as a tutorial for new players and a refresher for the experienced. Getting through the cave doesn't take long and rewards players with a decent starting sum of Runes, a few useful materials, and the «Strength!» Gesture. Furthermore, the cave's Site of Grace helps progress the three first Sites needed to trigger the Tarnished's encounter with Melina, who provides players with the Torrent Mount.

The next stop is the Church of Elleh, just north of The First Step. Tarnished can purchase the Crafting Kit from Merchant Kalé to unlock Item Crafting. The merchant also sells other miscellaneous articles, such as the Note: Flask of Wondrous Physick, an Info Item leading players to their next destination in Elden Ring, the Third Church of Marika in the northeast. Along the way, players will pass through the Gatefront Ruins, an excellent spot to practice combat and stealth. Tarnished should make sure not to miss this location as it has the Map Fragment needed to display West Limgrave.
