Elden Ring has a number of friendly characters, most being in the Roundtable Hold. One of the more polite and soft-spoken of these characters is Rogier. The first place players can meet him is in the chapel of Stormveil Castle, and after defeating Godrick the Grafted, Rogier moves into the Roundtable Hold.

Elden Ring does not go into detail as to why Rogier died, though (especially if the player has not gone under Stormveil Castle).

He is also called the Prince of Death because he was the first of Those Who Live in Death and is their creator, as his body was buried and corrupted the Erdtree roots so that some souls cannot rejoin with the Erdtree and are stuck in a living-death-like state. This corpse is also what gave rise to Deathroot.
