An Elden Ring player has recently discovered a way to farm some of the best runes in the game using a light-sensing robot. FromSoftware's open-world game has been out to play for over four months, and many of the secrets tucked in the Lands Between have been discovered by the community. While the upcoming Elden Ring guide books will likely help those looking to locate further interesting details in the game, some have taken inventive adventures into their own hands.
Of the many discoveries that can be made in Elden Ring, one of the most sought after is a quality Rune farming location. These locations are judged by how quickly and easily a player can amass a large amount of currency, which is known to be a difficult challenge in soulslike games. Thankfully, Elden Ring has a few spots where Runes can be acquired at a high rate and some players have developed strategies with certain weapons or items that further speed up the process. For example, the most well-known Elden Ring farming spot produces 2.5 million Runes per hour just by using high-level weapons. When combined with the endgame Sacred Relic Sword, however, this process can be amplified substantially.

Reddit user IZlCA took things even further for a particular Elden Ring Rune farming strategy, building a robot that does the whole process for them. According to the poster, light sensors are used by the bot to determine where the Site of Grace is on screen. Unfortunately, the post was removed by thread moderators, but many of the comments praised IZlCA for their ingenuity and vocalized respect for the creative use of AFK farming.
