The Dung Eater is undoubtedly one of the most well-known NPCs in From Software's Elden Ring. This is mostly thanks to his absurd title in comparison to all the other characters introduced in the opening cutscene of the game.
And, while his Quest Line can lead players to the «Blessing of Despair» Ending, it does also have an alternate path where the Tarnished can summon this deplorable man as their Spirit Ashes. Doing this is slightly difficult, as it requires Elden Ring players to be at specific points in multiple NPC Quest Lines, so let's go over the exact steps needed.
First off, players will need to reach Ranni's Rise and theend of the Carian Manor to swear their loyalty to this Empyrean. Afterward, Ranni will have the player speak with all three of her loyal subjects: War Counselor Iji, Blaidd her faithful Shadow, and the most hated of all, Preceptor Seluvis. Talking to Seluvis' spirit, in particular, will let the player know that his actual body is staying in the tower just south of Ranni's, and the player can go visit him.

Doing so results in Seluvis handing the Tarnished a potion of his own making (called Seluvis' Potion) and telling the player to give this concoction to Nepheli Loux, Sir Gideon Ofnir's adopted daughter. This is the potion players need in order to turn Dung Eater into a Spirit Summon, so don't hand it to anyone else (Nepheli or Gideon) until the time is right.
Next, players will need to reach the Altus Plateau in any capacity and then rest at a Grace. Once they've done this, they can return to the Roundtable Hold to find that the door behind the Twin Maiden Husks is now open, and the Spirit of the Dung Eater is sitting «politely» inside.
