Incantations in Elden Ring are a lot more than simple healing spells and attacks that deal Holy damage. In Elden Ring, Incantations are essentially a combination of Pyromancies and Miracles from previous FromSoftware games with a few more spells with special effects or unique damage types thrown in there too.

The Confessor class, for example, starts with the Assassin's Approach Incantation which completely silences all movement for a short time – and then there's the Dragonheart Incantations, which give players access to some of the most powerful spells in Elden Ring. With the Assassin's Prayerbook in hand, players can unlock two of Elden Ring's most useful Stealth spells.
Prayerbooks can be found in several places throughout Elden Ring, always highlighted on the ground with the intense indigo-outlined pickup beacon used for Key Items. There are a variety of Prayerbooks that unlock a bunch of «basic» spells. You won't find game-breaking Incantations from Prayerbooks, but they do unlock useful spells every Faith-based character can use.
The Assassin's Prayerbook specifically unlocks the Assassin's Approach Incantation that Confessors start Elden Ring with as well as the Darkness Incantation. Darkness acts as a veil over the player, improving a player's ability to hide in plain sight, while Assassin's Approach totally silences a character's movement without altering enemies' visual detection.
