Redmane Castle, found in south Caelid, is one of the few places in Elden Ring that doesn't appear as intimidating from afar as it does up close. From a distance, Elden Ring's Redmane Castle is just another fort, but as soon as you reach the Impassable Greatbridge you begin to realize just how dangerous a place it is.

The Impassable Greatbridge is not the only thing standing in your way of getting into General Radahn's namesake castle, though. After the catapults players have to get through a veritable army which includes a flaming ballista, avoid a Troll, traverse a short parkour segment, and deal with groups of hidden bats and harpies – even once you get inside the danger is far from over.
Redmane Castle is found about mid-way through Caelid and can be seen from several vantage points throughout the zone (but not from the Swamp of Aeonia). It plays an important role in the history of Caelid and the height of General Radahn's power. He was a warrior so powerful and so respected that the Radahn Festival is dedicated to giving the ailing demigod a proper death.
Long ago General Radahn and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, fought to a standstill. To sum up a lot of lore in a few words, Malenia nuked Caelid with Scarlet Rot as a final resort and fled, while Radahn and his armies were plagued with what is essentially an ultra-biohazard. Over time General Radahn slowly lost his mind, to the point that all he could do was howl at the stars above, and his devotees wish nothing more than to give him the death he deserves, not this rotten drawn-out fate.
