While Elden Ring is still a couple of weeks away, some lucky players have already spent a few hours in the fantasy world. After getting a hands-on preview, those folks have been praising the freedom which the game allows in exploration, customization of classes and weapons, as well as the vast amount of side missions to tackle. One of these lucky players just stumbled upon an item that completely changes how the game can be played. This allows users to mimic props and hide from enemies, turning Elden Ring into a weirder version of Prey.
Over on Gamesradar, Joel Franey shared their experience with Elden Ring. Having spent a few hours in the world, they noted how the game is “beautiful and inscrutable, as vicious as it is inciting”. However, one thing they could not resist from talking about was the “mysterious and powerful boon without equal” that they happened across in Stormveil Castle. That boon is the Mimic Veil.

Found in an unassuming chest, the Mimic Veil is a simple item that can be activated using a small amount of mana. Once activated, it turns the player into a random and seemingly harmless object like a shrub or crate. By camouflaging as a part of the background, enemies will not pay you any attention as they pass. This opens a whole new method of fighting through the lands of Elden Ring.
If enemies do not see you move as the object, you can easily sneak up on them and take them out, Metal Gear Solid style. This method will take a bit of practice and patience as you memorize an enemy’s patrol pattern and follow them closely.
