Elden Ring’s invasion mechanic follows in the same vein as other FromSoftware games like Dark Souls, allowing players to engage in PvP by using certain in-game items. This mechanic can be frustrating for some players that just want to play co-op or summon help for a difficult boss fight and end up being invaded. However, the invader has no control over which world they are about to enter and so could be confronted with anything. Many players have used this random element to set up elaborate or funny surprises for possible invaders.
