Mortal Kombat is a franchise many fans of fighting games or video games in general are likely to be somewhat familiar with. With the first Mortal Kombat releasing in 1992, the historic franchise has recently had its 30th anniversary. At the time, fans were hoping there would be some sort of announcement to celebrate the anniversary, perhaps even relating to the release of Mortal Kombat 12. However, disappointment reigned as there was no such reveal to be found. Now, fans are looking to another major event to see what the future of Mortal Kombat holds.
Specifically, some were initially hoping to see the announcement of Mortal Kombat 12 at this year's EVO tournament. The Evolution Championship Series is one of the most notable tournaments in the competitive fighting game calendar. With large prize pools and plenty of games to play, much of the fighting game community also expects some big announcements to drop during the event. This has especially been the case this year after PlayStation announced that there would be reveals at EVO 2022 from the developers of the fighting games featured there.

However, it seems that Ed Boon has confirmed that fans won't be seeing any major Mortal Kombat reveals at the event. In response to a tweet from IGN saying that the developers behind Mortal Kombat and other games are expected to make announcements at this year's EVO, Boon stated on Twitter that there are no reveals planned. Boon went on to say that «it's time for Street Fighter and other great fighting games to be in the sun.» Of course, the developer making specific remarks about Mortal Kombat not revealing anything at EVO led fans to speculate about an Injustice 3
