While fans are undoubtedly eager to play , it may not be the reinvention of the franchise that many assume it will be. During the Nintendo Direct wherein the latest top-down was announced, the community was stunned to learn that the titular princess is actually stepping in the spotlight for the first time as the playable protagonist while Link takes a back seat and awaits rescue. As exciting as the change-up is, Zelda seemingly won't be the only character players control in the game.
Per an ESRB rating, Link will be playable in, debunking speculation that users would only control Zelda for the game's duration. The actual listing itself simply states that "," confirming that the Hero of Time won't appear as an NPC but may have some substance to his portion of the game. While those who enjoy Link may be excited to realize that Nintendo hasn't completely put him aside, it's still a shame that Zelda doesn't get to have the stage to herself in her own game.

While that seems like the most likely scenario, Link may play an even greater role in the narrative and gameplay.
Some have suggested that Zelda could eventually rescue Link and the two could team up, allowing players to jump back and forth between them to solve particularly challenging puzzles. That may sound like fun but one would like to think that Zelda, after spending decades as the objective of Link's quest, could finally have a moment to shine without his assistance.
