Electronic Arts has reportedly cancelled a new a single-player game set in the Titanfall/Apex Legends universe.
According to Bloomberg, the game was in development at EA studio Respawn Entertainment, where a team of about 50 people had been working on it.
Codenamed Titanfall Legends, the project was reportedly being led by creative director Mohammad Alavi until he left the company in January 2022.
Respawn announced in July 2021 that it was developing a new single-player adventure game set in a “unique universe”, which Alavi was attached to.
Alavi was a senior designer on the Titanfall series and the narrative design director on Apex Legends during an 11-year spell at Respawn. Prior to that he spent seven years at Infinity Ward, where he designed iconic Call of Duty missions including ‘No Russian’ and ‘All Ghillied Up’.
Following his departure, it was claimed that the game was a first-person shooter built around mobility and style that was planned for release by 2025.
News of the game’s cancellation was reportedly announced internally by EA on Wednesday.
At the same time, EA publicly announced the cancellation of Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile, as well as the closure of mobile studio Industrial Toys and a delay for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Staff who were working on the cancelled single-player game who can’t be repositioned in other teams will be given severance packages and laid off, Bloomberg reported.
