Dying Light 2: Stay Human is off to a very strong start on Steam.
The PC version of Techland’s open-world zombie title, which is also available via the Epic Games Store, was released on February 3 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET (February 4 at 12am GMT).
At the time of publication, it has 156,000 concurrent players, having reached a peak of 164,591 during its first 11 hours of availability.
Only 50 other titles have ever attracted more concurrent players on Valve’s online game platform, according to data published on SteamDB.
The data compares very favourably with that of the game’s predecessor, 2015’s Dying Light, which reached a peak concurrent player count of almost 46,000.
It also tops the peak concurrent player counts of two other big Steam releases this year. Monster Hunter Rise’s peak player count stands at 134,262, while God of War’s totals 73,529.
Dying Light 2, which suffered several years of delays since its first reveal at E3 2018, is also available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
It’s an uninspiring adventure saved by excellent parkour, according to VGC’s Dying Light 2 review.
VGC’s Jordan Middler and GGRecon’s Aaron Bayne also appraised this week’s big release in this Reviewers Roundtable video discussion.
According to the pair, what starts off as a tense fight for survival that encourages you to be deathly afraid of the dark quickly turns into a fairly generic open-world game, with some great mobility that happens to have zombies in it.
In mid-January, Dying Light 2’s Switch release was pushed back significantly, with Techland now planning to deliver the game within six months of the other versions.
