Get out your cigars and hail to the king as a new Duke Nukem movie adaptation is in development from Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. 3D Realms' action video game franchise centers on the titular protagonist as he frequently fights to save the Earth from alien invaders. The Duke Nukem series first kicked off with the 1991 eponymous title and was followed by three direct sequels as well as multiple spinoffs.
The first-person shooter Duke Nukem games were both acclaimed and criticized during its run for its levels of violence, sexuality and other controversial topics seen in each title, with the final title Duke Nukem Forever infamously being panned for its dated content and poor controls. Given its early popularity, attempts at adapting Duke Nukem to film have languished over over 20 years. Despite the franchise's seeming lack of a future on consoles, it appears its big screen hopes are finally gaining some ground.

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that a new Duke Nukem movie adaptation is currently in the works from Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. The trio are attached to produce the long-gestating adaptation along with Legendary Adaptation, who acquired the rights to the property from publisher Gearbox Software. Sources report that the search for a writer on the Duke Nukem movie is currently underway.
