The dispute between Twitch and Dr Disrespect appears to have been settled out of court, but its still unknown why it happened.
If you were expecting to see the drama between Dr Disrespect and Twitch escalate into a long-drawn legal battle, which would finally reveal why he was banned from Twitch, you’re going to be very disappointed.
In a surprisingly brief and anti-climactic conclusion to the whole affair, Dr Disrespect, aka Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm shared a brief statement on Twitter that reads only: ‘I have resolved my legal dispute with Twitch. No party admits to any wrongdoing.’
Twitch, in a statement to PC Gamer, said more or less exactly the same thing, ‘Dr Disrespect and Twitch have resolved their legal dispute. No party admits to any wrongdoing.’
The whole thing kicked off back in 2020 when Dr Disrespect was unexpectedly banned from Twitch, only three months after the former signed a multi-year contract with the streaming platform.
Twitch never provided a reason for the ban, only saying that Dr Disrespect had violated their Community Guidelines and/or Terms of Service, which is how they handle most bans.
About a year later, Dr Disrespect revealed he had learned why he was banned but still didn’t reveal the reason publicly. He only said that he intended to sue Twitch’s parent company Amazon for damages.
That led to this week’s out of court settlement, which likely means Twitch/Amazon offered enough money to put an end to the whole affair.
The only other detail shared is that Dr Disrespect won’t be returning to Twitch, which was always unlikely given the circumstances. Even if his lifetime ban was lifted, he probably wouldn’t want to come back anyway.
This also means the reason behind the ban willy likely remain a mystery
