Doom and Doom 2 may be notorious for their graphic, though retro, violence, but a recent mod for the iconic sequel has gone for more of a love theme. There are many ways for gamers to show their love for their partner, especially around Valentine's Day, be that through the medium of split-screen co-op play or with something that's themed around such passions. Video games may have gained something of a reputation for being aggressive, but there's no reason why fans can't also show their sensitive side.
Given that the original Doom features plenty of gore and demon slaying, the fact that it was a controversial release back in the mid-90s should not be too much of a surprise. It's pretty much responsible for kick-starting the first-person shooter genre, and while the industry has moved on and advanced significantly since then, there are people in the community who will always return to id Software's influential titles.
Doom Fan Gets Multi Monitor Version of Game to Run on 4 DOS PCs
As spotted by PC Gamer, a user over on Doom World known as Peccatum Mihzamiz has released a new mod for Doom 2. Called «Lover's Quarrel,» it's described as a Valentine's Day-themed modification for the game, featuring 32 maps for single-player, deathmatch, and co-op. Essentially, it takes the violence and gives it more of a love spin, with a video showing that pink levels, a bright sky, and weapons that shoot hearts give the FPS a more loving vibe. Of course, the violence is still very much there, as the player continues to mow down enemy after enemy, but it's juxtaposed with the aforementioned assets. Even the names of the maps are love-based, with such examples including «You May Kiss the Demon,» «Long Walks on the Beach,» and «Pink Lipstick.»
