Although Tifa Lockhart does not die in the original, there have been rumors about her dying in. With the remake series changing events from the original game to tell a different type of story with ambiguous timelines, there was a lot of speculation about Tifa being killed instead of Aerith. In fact, even some official marketing pieces like trailers seemed to hint at that happening, perhaps in an attempt to instigate players’ curiosities and nod at the several fan theories. Now, however, the definitive answer about Tifa’s fate is available.
Having played the game to completion, can confirm that Tifa does not die in . The fan-favorite character and one of the most popular heroes in the entire franchise is still alive and breathing when the credits on the game roll. This means that it is very likely that Cloud’s childhood friend and master pugilist will make a reappearance – and possibly an important one – during the events of the third and final title in the remake series. Tifa’s survival, however, was not easily achieved, as she was put at mortal risk.
Despite making it out alive, Tifa does have a near-death experience in the second title of the remake series. While exploring the destroyed Mako Reactor in the town of Gongaga, Tifa falls into the water and starts drowning. What seems like her untimely demise is then interrupted when she is saved by one of the Weapons in the area.
