Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall thinks future showrunners will ignore his controversial Timeless Child twist. No one can fault current Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall for his ambition. His tenure is most notable for one of the biggest retcons in Doctor Who history; the idea that the Doctor is not a Time Lord at all. Instead, she is the Timeless Child, a being who potentially predates the universe itself and who became the base genetic code for the entire Time Lord race.
The Timeless Child retcon divided the show's fanbase. Some have objected passionately to it, angered at how it breaches existing canon. Others are willing to wait and see, curious about where the story is leading — because so far, it feels incomplete, as though Chibnall has laid a foundation that he will build upon in the upcoming Centenary Special. That will mark the end of Chibnall's era, with Russell T. Davies — the man responsible for Doctor Who's revival in 2005 — returning. Davies has already expressed support for the Timeless Child retcon, interpreting it as simply opening up unlimited vistas for future stories.

However, despite Davies' public statements, it seems Chibnall fully expects Davies to move away from the Timeless Child. «It's one of the few drama series without a written bible, and every era contains a contradiction or left-turn from what has come before,» he observed in an interview with Radio Times. "Any future showrunner will ignore it or run with it... Oh, I fully expect Russell to ignore it!"
