Russell T Davies has reacted to Ryan Gosling's unofficial Doctor Who t-shirt, which features fan art of his Barbie co-star Ncuti Gatwa as the next Doctor. Gosling and Gatwa are currently filming Greta Gerwig's Barbie, a new film focused on Mattel's famous toyline. Gosling will play Ken, and Gatwa is rumored to also be playing a version of Barbie's famous male counterpart. Meanwhile, Davies and Gatwa will work together on future seasons of the long-running BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who starting in 2023.
Announced as the next incarnation of the heroic Time Lord in May 2022, Gatwa is set to work alongside Davies when the former showrunner returns to helm Doctor Who for the first time since his departure in 2009. While David Tennant will take the stage as the Doctor once more for the franchise's 60th-anniversary special, Gatwa will step into the role for the following seasons. Before that, though, Gatwa is working on the highly anticipated Barbie movie. Set photos have been stirring up headlines all week, but one of the most interesting images to emerge has nothing to do with the doll. Gosling caught attention for wearing a Doctor Who shirt featuring Gatwa while on set, lending his support to his Barbie co-star.

Now, Davies shares a photograph of Gosling between filming on the set of Barbie, wearing the now-recognizable Doctor Who shirt alongside a cap and a pair of sunglasses. The returning showrunner expresses his surprise at Gosling wearing the shirt featuring Gatwa, joking about how the clothing is unofficial as the original image is a piece of fan art by artist Matthew Purchase.
