Benedict Cumberbatch says that there's only one thing that didn't change during the filming of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Cumberbatch once again stars as Doctor Stephen Strange in the film, in his second solo feature as the MCU's Master of the Mystic Arts. Sam Raimi directs the movie, which also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Xochitl Gomez.
Originally, Doctor Strange 2 was to be directed by the original film's helmer, Scott Derrickson, who dropped out during pre-production due to creative differences. Raimi was brought on board shortly after, his first return to the world of Marvel after directing Sony's first three live-action Spider-Man films in the 2000s. It was reported back in November that the film would be undergoing «significant reshoots,» which lasted six weeks and may or may not have added additional characters in the process. Cumberbatch was noted as saying that reshoots had been «tough» yet also «rewarding» for a film as massive as Doctor Strange 2.

During a video interview Q&A for Ladbible, both Cumberbatch and Olsen commented on the significant changes that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness underwent while discussing how to keep from revealing spoilers. The conversation turned to how both actors find out about surprises and changes in the script while filming, saying that they frequently would be coming up with new material on the morning of filming. Cumberbatch then goes on to say, «The only thing that didn't change in the filming of this film was the title. Strongest line. So true, so true.» The two share a brief laugh, with Olsen saying soberly
