Disney Lorcana publisher Ravensburger has been hit with a lawsuit, as trading card company Upper Deck claims Ravensburger and co-designer Ryan Miller stole the design of the game from its own in-development TCG, Rush of Ikorr.
The lawsuit claims Miller headed up development of Rush of Ikorr in 2019, before leaving to work on Disney Lorcana. Upper Deck claims that Lorcana is “nearly identical” to Rush of Ikorr, pointing out similar game elements between the two.

Announcing the lawsuit on Twitter and its website, Upper Deck accuses Ravensburger and Miller of “stealing and copying Upper Deck’s original game”. In a statement in the same announcement, president Jason Masherah says “We encourage competition in the industry, but also strongly believe in playing by the rules to ensure the gaming community benefits from the different creative choices by each manufacturer.”.
The lawsuit names Ravensburger and Miller as co-defendants against a number of complaints, including breach of contract, unfair business practices, and fraud. It claims that Miller was hired to work as the lead game designer on its TCG Rush of Ikorr, which puts you in control of various “Avatars” of ancient cultures like the Greeks and the Mayans.
However, in 2020, Miller left Upper Deck to join Ravensburger. Upper Deck alleges that Miller “concealed this fact” from it, and was in communication with Ravensburger while still having access to the confidential information surrounding Rush of Ikorr. Fast forward to 2022, and Disney Lorcana is announced by Ravensburger, with Miller named as the brand manager and co-designer of the game.
