Gameloft is issuing a quick update for Disney Dreamlight Valley addressing the life-sim game's frustrating Dream Shard scarcity issue. Gameloft launched Disney Dreamlight Valley into early access this past week, a surprise announced on the latest Nintendo Direct. Planned to fully launch in 2023 as a free-to-play game, Disney Dreamlight Valley is, unfortunately, living up to its early access labeling. The quick update will hopefully address a variety of ongoing technical issues and progression roadblocks.
As an in-development free-to-play game, Disney Dreamlight Valley players likely expected some challenging progression restrictions in the game. That's the nature of free-to-play game monetization. However, when Dream Shards, a key currency necessary to unlock progression in the game, kept players blocked from nearly all progression, Gameloft acted quickly. It issued 25 Dream Shards to players directly, a temporary solution while a longer-term answer was worked on by the developers.

That answer has now arrived, with a Thursday update for Disney Dreamlight Valley delivering a variety of ways for players to now earn Dream Shards going forward. Dream Shards will now drop at an increased rate from Night Thorns, which had a staggeringly low drop rate prior. Additionally, Dream Shards will begin to drop from both sparkling buried items and feeding critters something they «like.» This should allow Disney Dreamlight Valley players options for Dream Shards suited to the gameplay they enjoy.
The Dream Shard changes aren't the entirety of Gameloft's new update, though. A variety of bug fixes, quality of life changes, and general improvements have also been made to Disney Dreamlight
