Discord voice chat is heading to Xbox
Discord voice chat will soon be available on Xbox platforms, bringing Discord friends and communities to Microsoft's console ecosystem.
The move will enable Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One users to chat with anyone on Discord via voice channels or group calls directly from their console, uniting users across mobile, Xbox, and PC.
Discord support will initially be rolled out to Xbox Insiders starting today, but will soon be made available to the wider Xbox community.
"Discord Voice on Xbox consoles allows you to talk with your friends and community while you play your favorite games," wrote Eric Voreis, principal program manager of player experiences and platforms at Microsoft.
"Planning a few rounds of multiplayer action in Halo Infinite with buddies on both console and PC? Exploring new biomes with your friends in Minecraft? See them already playing a game that supports cross-play? Connect to their voice channel and chat as you all play.
"While you are playing on your console, you will be able to see who is in the call and speaking. You’ll also be able to adjust the sound, and switch between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat."
Xbox owners will be able to make use of the feature by hitting the "Try Discord Voice on Xbox" prompt in the "Parties & Chats" menu. After doing that, they'll be prompted to scan a QR code that will open a Discord and Xbox apps page that can be used to establish a two-way link between the two services.
It's worth noting that anybody who's previously linked their Discord account to their Xbox will still need to follow that process and re-link.
