Tanjiro Kamado is a powerfulDemon Slayer in the so named anime, and throughout the show and movies he has only grown more so. However, especially in the anime, he has an equal if not greater impact on Demon’s humanity than their lives. For this reason, it seems that it would be prudent to rebrand him as the demon therapist rather than slayer, although he does do both. In some ways this only augments his power, and it certainly sets him apart from his peers. Regardless this unique trait aids him in his battles in complex and interesting ways. It also provides a certain amount of humanity that the audience can relate to and engage with in an otherwise violent anime.

In the anime Tanjiro and his younger sister Nezuko’s life is shattered when their family is slaughtered by a demon and she is turned into one herself. Tanjiro immediately reacts contrary to the nature of the world and defends his sister’s life against the first demon slayer that they encounter. He is then compelled by that man to pursue a career in the Demon Slayer Corps in order to safeguard human life. So begins an epic training arc, followed by more than a few slain demons.
