Warning: contains spoilers for One-Star Squadron #3!
DC has revealed the tragic reality of Hourman, one of the Justice Society of America’s forgotten members. Minute Man, one of the heroes working under Red Tornado at the HEROZ4U company, uses Hourman’s Miraclo pills to gain powers, and in One-Star Squadron #3, readers learn using these pills comes at a great cost. The issue, the third of six, is on sale now in print and digital.
Hourman is one of DC’s oldest heroes, first appearing in Adventure Comics #48 in 1940 by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily. One of the founding members of the Justice Society of America, Hourman is Rex Tyler, a chemist who develops a special substance called “Miraclo,” which grants him super strength and endurance—but only for one hour, hence the name. The Miraclo substance has a history itself in the DC Universe, forming the basis for the Venom formula Bane uses to gain super-strength. The Minute Man, a former superhero, also uses the Miraclo formula, and readers learn in One-Star Squadron #3 that it comes with a downside. The Minute Man has found work at HEROZ4U, a startup company that connects superheroes with people via a special app, working alongside the likes of Red Tornado, Power Girl and the Heckler. The issue is written by Mark Russell, illustrated by Steve Lieber, colored by Dave Stewart and lettered by Dave Sharpe.
