Dbrand's latest product line brings the aesthetic of the Nothing Phone (1) to other smartphones.
Nothing plans to release the Phone (1) in 30 countries—not including the US—on July 21. That's a bit of a letdown for American consumers... or at least it was until Dbrand revealed Something.
Something is a line of skins and cases for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Google Pixel 6 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra that was clearly designed to resemble the Nothing Phone (1). It's a convincing riff on the original design—the only real giveaway is the Something branding.
Dbrand says(Opens in a new window) on its website:
Some might accuse us of theft. Here's our counter: we stole nothing. After all, we've spent a lot of time looking at internal hardware thanks to our Teardown initiative. As a result, we're uniquely qualified to rip off an industrial design aesthetic and 'creatively reinterpret' it for other devices. That's not theft - it's plagiarism, which is definitely not a crime. We checked.
It's a shame that Dbrand hasn't made Something available for more smartphones, but the company has the latest flagships from some of the most popular manufacturers covered, and people can sign up to be notified if the product line expands to cover their devices as well.
Something phone skins cost $25 without add-ons; the cases run $20 without accessories. (All of which at least double the cost of the product.) And, of course, they're all available in the US so Americans disappointed about missing out on the Nothing Phone (1) can get Something instead.
