The Dragonlance campaign setting is returning to Dungeons & Dragons in 2022 and it will be going the same multimedia route that it did when it started, all the way back in the 1980s. The first-ever D&D Direct announced Dragonlance's return, with a brief animated trailer, and the promise of two products to come. The new Dragonlance D&D modules will be launching in the same year as the new novel, and both will be bringing fans back to the beginning of the War of the Lance, albeit in different ways.
Dragonlance was one of D&D's most popular settings during the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons era, with Krynn being one of the three main worlds at that point in time. A big part of what made Dragonlance so popular was the novel series, with Dragons of Autumn Twilight kicking off the Chronicles trilogy in 1984. The novels were released at the same time as AD&D modules, with Dragons of Despair and Dragons of Flame roughly corresponding to the events of Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Not only were the story beats the same, but there were stats available for the players to actually play as the characters from the novels, with the Heroes of Lance fleshed out with stats.

The Dragonlance campaign setting has been dormant for a long time, but that's about to change.
