While a rough launch first set a bad impression for Cyberpunk 2077, with the release of patch 1.5 and continuous updates from CD Projekt Red, looking at recent Steam user scores makes it clear that the game has in some ways redeemed itself. There's still a ways to go for the sci-fi, dystopian title, but now gamers are largely looking forward to the next lot of content coming to Cyberpunk 2077 through its DLC. While these expansions may have been pushed back to 2023, there is another cyberpunk related series that fans of the game can watch to make the wait feel a little less long.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an upcoming anime series being published by Netflix and animated by Studio Trigger, which anime fans may be familiar with from the series Little Witch Academia or the movie Promare. The Cyberpunk 2077 anime adaptation was first announced in June 2020, but Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red didn't reveal more on the project until earlier this year. Now, the first official trailer for the series has dropped.
Cyberpunk Anime Shows Off Opening Sequence
The trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners begins with the violence that fans of Cyberpunk 2077 would expect from the dystopian Night City. However, this first scene is then revealed to be part of a simulation experienced by the main character, David. The show's protagonist appears to be part of some sort of academy, working his way through Arasaka industries similarly to the Corpo lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077. However, this isn't the case for very long as a series of unfortunate events leads him away from his cushy life and into taking on the role of an Edgerunner.
David is joined by a series of interesting characters, each given a very short introduction in the three-minute trailer.
