Cyberpunk 2077's Night City doesn't have any birds flying around, but this isn't an accidental omission on CD Projekt RED's behalf and is instead a part of the world's lore. At first glance, it might not seem noticeable because of the flying cars gliding through the air, but deeper Cyberpunk 2077 lore shows that there's a very specific reason for this. Night City is a place filled with lots of history, so it's no surprise that even birds fit into the bigger picture somehow.
Night City has seen its fair share of drastic and interesting changes throughout its life. According to the in-game lore, large unrest began in the early stages of 2020, with some declaring themselves in opposition to the large corporations. Edgerunners, as they're called, were quickly labeled as terrorists by the authorities because they took to fighting the corporations through violent measures. In 2023, the once lead singer of the popular Samurai band, Cyberpunk 2077's very own Johny Silverhand, bombed Arasaka tower, and it escalated everything. After that, Night City became a much more strict place to live, with more laws and regulations put in place. However, the strictness fostered the chaos of rival gangs controlling turf, and Nomads left the big city entirely. As time went on, many events took place and the population skyrocketed, which created disease outbreaks and led to unique policy decisions.
