Did you ever want to play Cyberpunk 2077 in VR? Well, you’ll likely be able to next week, as a mod is coming that’ll bring Night City to your headset. Luke Ross, a modder who also created a VR mod for Red Dead Redemption 2, recently posted an update on his Patreon with a tech demo video showing off the game running in VR. In addition to this, Ross has stated that the mod will be released “by the end of next week,” even if he isn’t satisfied with the current level of polish. Someone likes to live dangerously.
The five-minute video included below shows what’s basically a tech demo for Cyberpunk 2077‘s VR mod. Ross breaks down some points of interest on his Patreon alongside the video. He mentions how solid the performance is despite the jump to VR, as well as how truly immersive walking around the city is due to the game’s design. The video does an admirable job of giving you a good idea of how the game’s elements work with VR, and it’s quite an impressive undertaking. HUD elements are all spatially tracked correctly, so I can only imagine just how cool all of this will look on a headset.
I’m honestly somewhat surprised to see that someone was able to whip up a VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 on their own, especially when the game’s developer is still fighting its way through the game’s near-endless list of bugs to try and make progress. The game recently got an updated current-gen release on existing consoles, which also had improvements find their way onto PC. Seeing these additional improvements via VR headset next week will likely be quite the treat for fans of the game, but I’m sure there will be a fair amount of bugs to squash in the meantime.
