Cult classic PlayStation title Hohokum has been given a surprise release on Steam.
Announced during Annapurna Interactive‘s 2022 Showcase presentation, the game – which was originally released on PS3, PS4 and PlayStation Vita back in 2014 – is now available on Valve’s PC store for £7.99 / $9.99.
According to the game’s Steam page, Hohokum will feature the original soundtrack from the 2014 release, created in collaboration with Ghostly International Records, which was widely praised at the time.
“Take on the role of a curious flying kite-like being and travel to colourful, curious worlds waiting to be discovered,” Annapurna’s updated description for the game reads.
“Interact with characters and environments to uncover secrets or simply roam at your own pace and be amused at the surprises that unfold.
“While there are goals and activities, at its heart, Hohokum is a playground – a place to wander about and get lost in.”
Developed by UK studio Honeyslug, the game puts players in control of the Long Mover, a multicoloured snake which flies around each of its stages.
The game is non-linear and doesn’t have explicit goals, nor does it feature a tutorial, a score or a time limit.
Instead, the game is about experimentation and interacting with the various objects found in the 17 available worlds to see how each of them behaves.
Although criticised at the time for its lack of depth, Hohokum was generally critically praised for its relaxing pace and unique minimalist art style.
