Paradox Interactive, developer of Crusader Kings 3, has announced that the next update to the game will officially add same-sex marriage to the game. So, for everyone who wanted a little more stress relief than Crusader Kings 3's modded-in fishing game could provide, there’s another official option coming. This should be a welcome addition to an already highly-praised game.
Same-sex relationships are possible in Crusader Kings 3, but up to this point, same-sex marriage has not. Modders tried to get around this, but were unable to fully implement marriage, and had to settle for having same-sex concubines instead. However, in March of 2021, an official update to the game broke a part of the game that the same-sex concubine mod used, meaning that even that was no longer an option. Paradox Interactive was quick to clarify that that had not been its intent, and the company added support for same-sex concubine mods in June 2021, with support for same-sex marriage mods to follow.

Now, Rock Paper Shotgun reports that Paradox Interactive has done one better, bringing in support for same-sex marriages not only through mods, but also as an official option in the game itself. This means that, whether Crusader Kings 3 fans use mods or not, they’ll have same-sex marriage as an option if they want it. Paradox Interactive also said that it has updated its AI accordingly, making sure the game fully integrates and acknowledges same-sex marriage as an option. By adding it as mod support as well, Paradox Interactive is allowing fans to decide how to implement the features, giving fans the freedom to apply same-sex marriage to various cultures or any other category mods already
