Paget Brewster describes the first time she stepped foot on a crime scene set for Criminal Minds. The original CBS FBI crime thriller ran for 15 seasons from 2005 to 2020. However, a Criminal Minds revival is on the way at Paramount+, receiving an official series order in July of this year. In the show, members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) use their method of criminal profiling to investigate cases and identify perpetrators. Along the way, the members of the BAU also become closer as a team and confront their own demons. A massive hit, Criminal Minds launched an entire media franchise and continues to be a favorite among fans of true crime, praised for its lovable characters and titillating suspense.
The show’s original main cast consisted of Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, and Kirsten Vangsness. Though Moore, Gibson, Gubler, Cook, and Vangsness remained for much of the series, the cast went through plenty of overhauls. Brewster joined the team as Emily Prentiss in season 2 and was featured regularly until her departure at the end of season 7. She returned as a core member of the main cast in season 12, remaining until the conclusion of the show. She is also set to star in the Paramount+ Criminal Minds revival. Brewster is a fan-favorite member of the cast and was even rehired due to viewer backlash when she was released from her contract after season 6. While the character Brewster portrays is known for her coolness, the actress wasn’t always so stoic.
