Wasteland 3 developer inXile Entertainment is going down a different route with its next game, Clockwork Revolution. It’s a “time-bending steampunk first-person RPG” with players venturing through the city of Avalon and going back in time to alter events, changing the overall story.
On Twitter, director Chad Moore said it would offer “deep world-building, compelling narrative, crunchy RPG systems, engaging gameplay, and massive reactivity.” He also constantly describes it as the “love child” of Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
Moore has worked on both titles, acclaimed for their story-telling and reactivity, with decisions affecting the role-playing experience. They also offer a strong degree of freedom in building your character and playing how you want. Combining both into a game like Clockwork Revolution certainly increases the expectations on it. We’ll have to wait and see if it delivers.
Clockwork Revolution will release for Xbox Series X/S and PC but has no launch date (aside from the out in “due time” tagline in the announcement trailer). Stay tuned for updates in the coming months.
