Amazon's new holiday movie Red One has apparently added Captain America actor Chris Evans to its cast. Deadline reports that Evans will appear in a starring role in the film alongside Dwayne «The Rock» Johnson.
Filming is expected to begin this year, and it's described as a «globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy,» but specific plot details are unknown.
Jake Kasdan, who directed the new Jumanji films, is directing Red One from a script by Chris Morgan. Morgan previously worked on the writing team for Hobbs and Shaw and The Fate of the Furious.
Perhaps what's most notable and unique about Red One is how it's apparently trying to be more than a movie. Amazon and production company Seven Bucks said in a statement that that Red One represents a «unique concept» for a movie that could make it not only a «tentpole film» but also a project that «could reach beyond entertainment across multiple industries and businesses.»
What that means, exactly, remains to be seen, but it could involve Amazon Prime. Perhaps there might be some kind of e-commerce angle baked into the film… somehow.
This is just the latest big movie for Evans, who is also lined up to star in The Gray Man for Netflix from the Russo brothers, who previously directed the latest Avengers films. It is Netflix's most expensive movie of all time. Evans is also voicing Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's Lightyear. Additionally, Evans will play Gene Kelly in an upcoming film.
