Warning: spoilers ahead for Choujin X chapter 22!
An epic battle between two friends is about to explode in the next chapter of Choujin X, and yet readers are surprisingly just as invested in what their powers signify as they are in how the actual fight will unfold and affect the relationship of these two friends.
Choujin X's mangaka Sui Ishida, who also created Tokyo Ghoul, planted the seed in readers' heads long ago that the reason why the main character — the superpowered being or choujin named Tokio — transforms into a vulture is because of how much his personality and idiosyncrasies are influenced by that particular bird of prey. Essentially, Tokio followed around and fed off the success and popularity of his friend Azuma so shamelessly as a kid in school that Tokio's classmates couldn't help but make that comparison. Now that Azuma has assumed his own choujin form, fans are understandably reading into what his powers represent, even as they come as a huge surprise.

When Azuma first transformed, shackles appeared on his wrists and a cowl with a long cape wrapped around his head completely. In this form, he began attacking a reluctant Tokio. In chapter 22, Azuma stops bludgeoning his former friend because something inside the cowl is moving and incredibly heavy. Inspecting the odd, unsettling occurrence only causes a massive collection of bundled chains to spew out of the cowl and wrap around his hands, culminating in blades somehow manifesting from them.
