The official trailer for Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers has arrived, teasing its offbeat comedy and distinctive mix of live-action, 2D, and 3D animation.Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers is based on the 1989-1990 cartoon of the same name, which stars the eponymous duo of animated chipmunks as they run their own detective agency. Directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer and written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), the comedy-adventure movie stars John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as Chip and Dale, respectively. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 20, 2022.
Like DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, and TaleSpin, the original Rescue Rangers cartoon was massively popular in the 90s when it went into syndication. The upcoming live-action and animation hybrid movie has been marketed as a comeback instead of a reboot and will obviously capitalize on nostalgia for the original series while taking it to new places. Rescue Rangers follows the reconciliation of Chip and Dale thirty years on as they agree to work together again to solve the mysterious disappearance of a friend.

Now, Walt Disney Studios has released the official trailer, giving a detailed look at the plot, updated character designs, and revealing the most recent additions to the cast. The trailer reveals a mix of 2D and 3D animation (Dale remarks about having “CGI surgery”) and Chip and Dale’s lives as cartoons living alongside humans in modern-day Los Angeles. It's packed with fun intertextual references, promises of high-octane adventure, and even an extended gag about poor-looking CGI animation from years past. Watch the full trailer below:
