Developer Certain Affinity has been a support studio on various Halo games dating all the way back to Halo 2. Yesterday, the developer announced on Twitter that it is becoming more involved with Halo Infinite going forward. In the announcement, the studio wrote, “we’re honored to say we are deepening our relationship with 343 [Industries] and have been entrusted with further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways.”
Halo Infinite has come under a lot of critical judgment from fans due to a lack of new content. Season 2 will hopefully change that for the better, but this reveal by Certain Affinity hints toward longer-term additions to the game. Windows Central previously reported that Certain Affinity is supposedly working on a new Halo Infinite game mode with the codename Tatanka. The reports claimed that it will be more approachable for newcomers, which could suggest anything from a Battle Royale mode to a PvE mode in the vein of Firefight. Whatever the new mode may turn out to be, Certain Affinity’s announcement of a deeper working relationship with 343 is good news for the long-term health of Halo Infinite.
For those who may not know as much about the studio, Certain Affinity has a long history with Microsoft and the Halo franchise. It originally helped to create new maps for Halo 2, and it provided support for games, such as Halo: Reach and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The studio might also be working on other Microsoft projects outside of Halo. Rumors claimed that the studio was assisting with the Perfect Dark reboot being helmed by The Initiative. More recently, game journalist Jeff Grubb mentioned that Certain Affinity is working on a game codenamed Suerte. This would be an exclusive PC and Xbox
