Activision has officially announced this year’s new Call Of Duty and Warzone 2, with both using a brand new engine.
As was predicted earlier in the day, Activision has announced not only what this year’s Call of Duty is going to be, but the much rumoured Warzone 2 as well.
It was a very low-key announcement though, with no artwork, screenshots, or videos, just a brief mention at the end of a blog about Season Two of the current Call Of Duty games.
Nevertheless, it’s now confirmed that this year’s Call Of Duty is a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot and that a ‘new Warzone experience’ will be out before the end of 2022.
Both will be designed together by Infinity Ward and will use a brand new game engine, rather than relying on any of the existing games.
There are absolutely no details beyond that though, other than Warzone 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) will be a ‘massive evolution of battle royale with all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode’.
Rumours suggest that this year’s paid-for Call Of Duty will have little in common with the Modern Warfare 2 of 2009 and will instead revolve around fighting South American drug cartels.
There have been less rumours about Warzone 2 (which, again, may not be its real name) but it’s believed to be a next gen only title, meaning it’ll only be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
If that’s true then it suggests that Warzone 1 will continue to be supported for some time, considering the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are still very much active formats.
When there’ll be more official information is not clear, although it is the Super Bowl on Saturday and Activision has used that to promote new Call Of Duty announcements in the past…
