Bungie Won't Support Destiny 2 on Steam Deck, May Ban Players Attempting to Play
While Bungie is currently supporting Destiny 2 across a wide variety of platforms both new and old, it would seem that this may not continue being the case for newcomer systems in the future. Specifically, the popular developer seems to be taking a strong stance in regard to Valve's new portable gaming PC, and the owners may not like it.
According to Bungie's latest update to its Destiny 2 help blog, the game will offer no support or functionality on Valve's SteamOS operating system. On its own, this might not be a total deal-breaker as players may look for alternative ways to get Destiny 2 to run on the Steam Deck, but Bungie seems to have taken the situation to an even further, and somewhat unexpected level.
Destiny 2 is Now Previewing Arc 3.0 in an Unexpected Way
Official Bungie sources have now confirmed that Destiny 2 will not work on Valve's handheld gaming PC, similar to how Fortnite won't be updated for Steam Deck, either. The Bungie help page specifically denotes that the popular looter-shooter would not run on any PC running Valve's new SteamOS operating system, or through the widely supported Steam Play Proton translation layer. Players attempting to run Destiny 2 this way will simply be booted back to their library, according to Bungie.
What's more, even though Steam Deck is compatible with Easy Anti-Cheat, which Destiny 2 uses, Bungie will also take things a step further if players attempt to somehow bypass the game's platform lockout. The help article mentions that, if someone were to figure out a way to run Destiny 2 on SteamOS, they would be met with a prompt game ban. In fact, Bungie claims that the only way to play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck is to install Windows on the device.
