Some video game fans believe that Sony is too focused on its first-party exclusives. While Xbox has been working for years on bringing most of its former console exclusives such as Halo Infinite to PC and the older Xbox One, PlayStation has been sticking to its formula of releasing its AAA games exclusively for its consoles. This has changed slightly in recent times, thanks to the release of Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War on PC. It seems now too, that Sony could be more interested in ditching its focus on exclusivity and producing more multiplatform work.
Not only will there be a slate of former PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC, as stated by Jim Ryan, but there could also be some new studios being brought on to work on games for more than just PlayStation consoles. In January 2022, Sony revealed that it planned to purchase Halo and Destiny 2 developer Bungie. Fans initially saw this as a response to Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, now it seems that this is the first step in Sony's plan to expand its multiplatform work.

An interview with Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida revealed that the acquisition of Bungie was partly motivated by PlayStation's wishes to become more of a multiplatform business. Speaking during a corporate strategy meeting, Yoshida said that Sony's expectations for Bungie are high. «We believe [the deal] will be a catalyst to enhance our live game service capabilities,» Yoshida went on to say. Considering Jim Ryan believes live-service games will be more valuable than subscription services in gaming's future, it seems vital for Sony that it produces some high-quality live-service titles.
