Would-be Spider-Man 4 star Bruce Campbell fuels Mysterio fan-casting hype with a new deepfake image. Sam Raimi made Spider-Man a blockbuster property with a trio of webslinging films released between 2002 and 2007. Unfortunately Sony then decided to change course, robbing Raimi of the chance to make Spider-Man 4.
Of course Raimi is currently back on the superhero directing beat with the smash hit MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But fans still want to know aboutSpider-Man 4 and what plans were in place for the never-made superhero film. Speaking recently to Rolling Stone, Raimi discussed the Spider-Man movie he never got to make and threw out a fun little tidbit for fans, confirming long-standing rumors that his old pal Campbell was in line to play Spider-Man villain Mysterio in the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal of course ended up debuting the character of Mysterio on the big-screen in the later MCU film Spider-Man: Far From Home.
