Beyond The Edge contestant, American Idol alum and country music superstar Lauren Alaina injured her foot during a competition on the show and, although she was devastated to leave after doctors told her that she could not continue, she admitted that they made the«right call.» On Beyond The Edge, nine celebrities--including Lauren, Craig Morgan, Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary, Colton Underwood, Eboni K. Williams, Metta World Peace, Paulina Porizkova and Jodie Sweetin--compete in challenging adventures in the jungles of Panama to raise money for charities of their choice. The adventures test their physical prowess and mental strength. They face brutal conditions as they live in the jungle, including torrential rainstorms and encounters with wildlife. There are no eliminations each week. Instead, the celebrities have to ring a bell to signal that they are ready to leave the competition and go home.
Lauren, who is 27 years old, said that she joined the show mainly because of the charity component but also because she loves adventure. She has been very open about her past struggles with eating disorders, and she has spoken about how Beyond The Edge has helped her to see how powerful her body can be and to be thankful for the body that God gave her. Lauren tackled both the physical and mental challenges of the adventures, pushing herself to her limit in order to win. Unfortunately, during the fifth adventure, Lauren fell while running in the jungle but immediately got up and continued the task. After visiting the hospital, Lauren revealed that she tore a ligament in her foot, and she had to withdraw from the competition due to the doctor's orders, making her the second celebrity to leave after Metta World Peace.
