That time Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, and Ghost Rider took over the pages of the modern Marvel Universe's first series as the New Fantastic Four in a story by Walt Simonson and Arthur Adams is one of the most popular FF stories of all time.
Marvel Comics will revisit the fan-favorite story in May with a limited series by writer Peter David and artist Alan Robinson flashing back to an untold tale of the team-up set right after the original story.

It may seem strange to have a story on this list that doesn't even feature the characters we usually think of as the Fantastic Four, but Walt Simonson's energetic story of an unlikely replacement team is too much fun not to include on this list.
Simonson's Fantastic Four isn't as prominent in the writer/artist's catalog as his Thor run, but this gem with artist Arthur Adams takes the Fantastic Four to a somewhat meta-level by having the team be replaced by some of Marvel's hottest characters at the time – Hulk, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, and Spider-Man – all while drolly pointing out the marketing potential of the team-up in clever cover blurbs. And of course, the whole thing culminates in the return of the original Fantastic Four (and a massive team-up between both teams) in issue #350.
