The word puzzle game has become a favorite among those who enjoy casual mobile games, but it’s also inspired some creative fan-made projects. This week, one Wordle fan received a Wordle-inspired cake for their birthday, modeled after the Wordle interface.
Wordles rise to popularity has been dizzyingly quick. The game charmed players with its simple premise: solve a 5-letter word each day. Because the word is the same for all players, the game quickly went viral after players began seeking out answers and sharing their Wordle scores on Twitter. Since then, Wordle was acquired by The New York Times for an undisclosed sum. Meanwhile, a spate of Wordle clones have found their way onto the market, each seeking to re-imagine the game.

Since Wordle'ssuccess, players have used the game as inspiration for a variety of quirky and fun projects. One fan of the game was gifted a Wordle cake this week, cut into a square shape to mimic the game board. The grid and letters were created out of fondant, with the 5th guess reading the recipient’s name “KATEH” (Kate H). The cake was baked by Reddit user princesshashtag, who posted a photo of it to the /r/Wordle community. Reddit users praised the cake, describing it as “clever” and “thoughtful.”
Princesshashtag explained that they baked the cake for their roommate (who is a Wordle fan) in an effort to learn cake decorating, but also as a birthday gift.
