According to SteamCharts data, BattleBit Remastered recently topped Battlefield 2042's concurrent player count on Steam. BattleBit Remastered serves as the latest low-poly FPS spoof on Battlefield, offering a massively multiplayer experience spread across a large play space. The project developed by MrOkiDoki, BATTLEKOT, and TheLiquidHorse features boats, ground vehicles, and planes, the basis for any solid Battlefield-branded shooter. As of writing, the title is available as a free-to-play through Steam Early Access.
After several months of anticipation, developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts deployed Battlefield 2042 in November 2021 to mixed reviews and generally poor fan reception. The futuristic military shooter was plagued by myriad bugs at launch, with framerate issues, graphical hitches, and matchmaking woes affecting players across PC and console iterations. Battlefield 2042's lack of a campaign only made matters worse, along with a fair few changes to the formula that series faithful find most unfavorable. And it seems those who haven't taken a liking to the relatively new release are looking elsewhere for their Battlefield fix.

As noted by prominent leaker and insider Tom Henderson, BattleBit Remastered managed to top Battlefield 2042's concurrent player count on Steam yesterday, January 19. While the DICE-developed FPS title sat at around 3,800 concurrent users, the low-poly Early Access shooter had climbed to 4,200 players. Steam numbers only tell part of the tale, of course, but it's interesting to note that, at least for a time, a Battlefield-esque indie project had surpassed the real deal on a major PC platform. Tom
