The trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 revealed a Wookiee Jedi from Star Wars: The Clone Wars survived Order 66. The Clone Wars were the ultimate Jedi trap, carefully engineered to draw the Jedi into a no-win scenario. The pain and suffering sweeping the galaxy reduced the ability of the Jedi to draw upon the Force, leaving them vulnerable to Palpatine's schemes. It all culminated in Order 66, when the clone troopers turned on the Jedi and gunned them down.
The Jedi had been scattered across the galaxy when Palpatine issued Order 66, meaning there were naturally some survivors; Jedi who were unusually perceptive to the Force and sensed what was happening, and others who were simply lucky. Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1 revealed only the so-called "Bad Batch" rejected Order 66, with Clone Force 99 rescuing the Jedi Padawan who would take up the name Kanan Jarrus. Their disobedience ultimately led to them becoming outcasts, fleeing from the Empire and attempting to hide in the galaxy's underworld.

Gungi was one of a number of young Jedi who were taken to the planet Ilum to retrieve kyber crystals for their lightsabers; Gungi constructed a unique wooden lightsaber hilt made from items from the Crucible's stores, a smart way of acknowledging his heritage. Gungi somehow survived Order 66, but the fact he's still wielding his lightsaber suggests he's refused to cease practicing as a Jedi.
