The annual Free Comic Book Day is always a great opportunity to showcase new series or events, and Marvel will make no exception this year. Three separate one-shots will be distributed on May 7, and these will include Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men. This one-shot kicks off Marvel's epic event, Judgement Day, which will pit the X-Men and the Eternals, against each other, with the Avengers caught in the middle.
Details of the storyline are still scarce, but for a million years, the Eternals have been tasked by their creators, the godlike Celestials, to protect Earth from the Deviants. Until now, this has been considered to be in reference to the Deviant race, a failed experiment of the Celestials, but a teaser published on Marvel's social media suggests that the definition could include mutants too. Homo superiors have loose ties with the Celestials, who are responsible for introducing the X-gene in humanity, but this has never been explored fully until now, and it appears that the Eternals are embarking on a crusade to exterminate mutants.

Meanwhile, the mutants have separated from the rest of mankind, founding the nation of Krakoa, and even discovered the secret for immortality — or rather endless resurrection — making them more and more similar to the Eternals, who also live secluded, are immortals, and can resurrect. The upcoming conflict will not just involve the X-Men and the Eternals, however, but the Avengers too. The Earth's Mightiest Heroes have made their base inside the corpse of a Celestial, and recent issues of Eternals have revealed that the secretive race does not take kindly to such an offense to their progenitors.
