The USA's video games sales data for the month of August is here, and there's been a pretty steep drop-off when it comes to hardware.
Circana's Mat Piscatella states that hardware spending for August is down 36 per cent year-on-year. To be down by over a third is quite unusual, although it's possible some are saving their cash for the imminent PS5 Pro (and, of course, Nintendo's next console).
While the overall sector is down versus 2023, PS5 continues to be the USA's best-selling console, both by units and dollar sales.
Sony is also doing very well in terms of accessories. The Midnight Black DualSense controller is August's top accessory, and the PS Portal remains 2024's best-seller overall. PS5's Pulse Elite Wireless Headset is the year's top selling headset.
In terms of games, it's roughly what you'd expect. EA Sports Madden NFL 25 is August's best-selling title, nudging down its stablemate College Football 25 into second. Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws is holding firm in third, while Marvel's Spider-Man 2 stays consistent at number nine. Ghost of Tsushima climbs from 20th to 15th, and Gran Turismo 7 reappears in the top 20 at number 19.

I can understand GoT climbing back up given the announcement of the «sequel». I'm surprised Spider2 is still hanging in there after a year.
Nothing lasts forever. PS5 (and even XSX) sales were highly inflated over the Covid and post-Covid period due to
